My mother passed away a short while ago and it was time to clean out the house and divide up my mother's belongings among us. My "prissy" four sisters where doing fine until the time came to clean out the attic... together they all pointed in my direction and since I was the youngest and sort of a "tom boy" that job fell on me! I started my way through all the dust and spider webs and came upon an old box which was marked "Yankee candles".
My mother had always passionately been in love with candles and it wasn't a day that would go by, without either a Pillar Candle or some Votive Candles were burning in the house. So, I was curious to find out why these great, high quality Yankee Candles and Yankee Candle Tarts hadn't been used yet. That is, until I read the note attached to them! It was a letter from my father, dated 30 years ago and it simply said; these special Yankee Candles are to be lit in the event of my first son's birth. I love my daughters dearly, but please bring me a son...this one last time!
Poor daddy never got his son and now I understand why I was the one, who always got treated like the boy my parents never had. I ran down to see my sisters, to maybe get some well deserved sympathy, but they were already long gone. Well, I guess these great Yankee Candles will never get lit since there isn't one single boy born in our whole family! But then I thought, at least my father got me, the "tom boy", so I'm sure dad wouldn't mind if these special Yankee Candles finally got lit. So I did!
