Maps have been used for thousands of years. Without maps, quite a few of us would be lost. Maps are used to direct us, to help us find out where we are going. Cartography is the art of map making. People scour the globe in search of a new road or a new destination, just waiting to be discovered and documented. There are maps and atlases, some used only to get us to the next town, some to help us find out way around in a strange, new country. Intersections and street names, scaled figures and points of interest are written on maps to guide us.
You can stop at any local grocery store or convenient store and buy a map of the state or even of the fifty states if you are going out of town. You can ask for directions, or even use the internet to find out exactly how far it is to where you want to be.
Maps and directions are an integral part of our existence. New maps are drawn constantly seeing as our world is ever changing. Today there might be one road, tomorrow there could be fifteen. Planes use maps, drivers use maps; we all need direction. Some do not need help with direction. Some are born with the keen sense. Others, not so lucky. Longitude, latitude can all be very confusing. The tools themselves can be confusing, especially if you are not even sure of what you are looking for.
Everyone at at least one point in their lives will need some sort of direction whether it be driving, biking, flying. Maps take us to where we want to go, in the direction we are heading. Without these useful tools we may be doomed to wander.
Online mapping tools are more handy then the paper one's you can take with you, they have traffic notifications and reverse instructions. You can print them and take them with you.
If you don't have the means to use the online tools, a simple state map at the nearest gas station will do just fine. These ancient tools keep us safe and on track.
